Groupage shipments are one of the most preferred ways of transporting goods because they allow manufacturers and/or traders to combine their cargoes with each other, forming a larger cargo unit, which effectively reduces their costs and optimizes delivery time.
Groupage freight can be transported by land, air and water, and the process of collecting and organizing groupage shipments is also known as consolidation.
For small to medium loads that are not enough to fill an entire transport unit - truck, semi-trailer, etc. , group transports offer a significantly better price. Delivery time depends on the route of transport, the time of pickup of the packages and other factors, but depending on the type of cargo, sometimes group shipping can be a faster shipping option than individual shipping.
Many different types of goods can be transported through groupage transport. In fact, almost any kind of goods - fast-moving goods, ready-to-wear, ceramic products, building materials, appliances, household goods, etc., including similar ones that require a special mode of transportation, but naturally with specialized means of transport offering this service.
What can't you ship with Groupage? You cannot send shipments with group transport, you cannot send poisonous substances, flammable liquids, chemicals, fertilizers, preparations, batteries, weapons. Also - religious materials issued by banned sects, as well as movable cultural monuments without permission or without a certificate. Coins, notes, gold, silver, precious stones and others are called valuable cargo and they too cannot be transported in groupage.
As we mentioned, group transport can be realized by land - group transport, air - air group transport and water - sea group transport.
Land groupage is suitable for transporting goods within or to nearby or neighboring countries, or for cargo that is not suitable for air or sea transport. Ground groupage is flexible in terms of combining loads, offers a relatively short delivery time and an affordable price.
Air groupage is a preferred option if the cargo needs to be delivered in a shorter time frame, but faster delivery also results in a higher price for groupage transportation. Also, air transport has strict restrictions on certain types of cargo.
Sea groupage is preferred for bulkier and heavier loads. This type of groupage is the cheapest way to transport goods to and from long distances, but it also takes the longest time to complete the delivery.
