Transportation of oversized cargo

The transport of oversized cargo is a type of specialized transport. If the size and weight of the load is larger, non-standard than that of a load carried by an ordinary vehicle, then the load is oversized. Oversized cargo includes, for example, agricultural and construction machinery, construction elements, industrial equipment, containers, etc.
What is important to know about the transport of oversized cargo.
The transport of oversized cargo is realized under a special regime and requires preparation. Each country has its own national provisions determining the maximum permissible dimensions of road vehicles, as well as prohibitions on their movement in certain periods or routes. The transport of oversized cargo is a specific activity, which in Bulgaria is regulated by Ordinance №11 on Movement of oversized cargo and / or heavy road vehicles, issued by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The ordinance determines the mass, the dimensions of the axle load of vehicles that can move freely on national roads, as well as those that belong to the oversized vehicles used for transportation of bulky and heavy loads.
The vehicles for transportation of oversized cargo are two-axle tractors, three-axle tractors, specialized trailers. Institutions with which the transport of oversized cargo must be coordinated are the Traffic Police Department and the Road Infrastructure Agency. The transport of oversized cargo is also connected with various permits and fees to them - for exceeding the permissible norms (for crossing the national roads - BGN per kilometer), for processing documents, etc. In order for a vehicle with an oversized load to travel on the permit, the dates and times during which the load can move must be entered. The company that will transport the oversized cargo must submit the application in a form to the office of the Road Infrastructure Agency and / or the relevant Regional Road Administration, still on site, indicating all the parameters of the oversized or heavy vehicle, data for the start and end point of movement, data for the contractor of the oversized transport (the applicant company), data for the owner of the cargo and for an accompanying person. The term for issuing a permit is from one to five days, and the term for validity of the issued permit document by RIA is 30 days.
It should be noted that if an oversized road vehicle exceeds the values ​​of several indicators, tolls are collected for each exceeded indicator. The car is charged when: exceeding the maximum permissible width, when exceeding the maximum permissible when exceeding the maximum permissible length, when exceeding the maximum permissible mass, when exceeding the maximum permissible axle load.
In addition, the vehicle must be equipped with the necessary signaling in accordance with the law. In case the cargo goes more than 1 meter outside the vehicle or 20 cm outside it, a sign "Oversized cargo" is placed. The same applies to vehicles that exceed 22 m in length, 2.5 m in width and 4 m in height. There are also axle load limitations. For example - if the total weight is within the allowable range, but the load on an axle is exceeded, the load is considered to be overweight.
In certain cases, for example if the roadway is less than 6 m, the oversized vehicle is accompanied by a car / s with signal and sound signalization. It is therefore important that transport is well organized and planned, including the route of the vehicle.
When choosing a route, the road infrastructure, the optimal transit time and, of course, the optimal transport costs are taken into account. Temporary stopping of vehicles with oversized loads is necessary in the periods of the day with maximum intensive traffic, during the dark part of the day and with reduced visibility at a distance of less than 50 m.
