International road transport - basic documents
Useful information

In the international transport of goods and cargo, there are several basic documents
CMR is the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road, proving the delivery of the goods to their final destination.
The CMR consists of seven parts:
Part 1 - original, printed in red, which is handed over to the sender after concluding a contract of carriage.
Part 2 - printed in blue, which is handed over to the consignee of the cargo after his certification.
Part 3 - printed in green, which remains with the carrier after fulfilling the obligations under the contract of carriage.
Parts 4-7 - printed in black and used more for reference, but if requested by the customs authorities when crossing the border must be provided.
This document shall be drawn up in triplicate and signed by the consignor and the carrier. The first copy is handed over to the consignor, the second remains with the transported goods, and the third remains with the carrier.
A TIR CARNET is a document issued under the international TIR Convention by authorized organizations. Internationally, this is the International Association of Carriers (IRU), and for Bulgaria it is the Association of Bulgarian Enterprises for International Transport and Roads (AEBTRI). The TIR Carnet shall be issued in the country of departure or in the country in which the holder has his registered office or domicile. Each approved vehicle shall comply with the construction and equipment with the conditions laid down in the Convention. Every vehicle engaged in groupage services must have rectangular plates with the inscription "TIR" on the front and rear, which are very visible. In the event of accidents and incidents during transport, the authorities which discovered this must complete in detail the statement of findings in the TIR carnet.
Bill of lading for land transport is the document establishing the contract for transport and forwarding. Its legal force does not depend on the regularity, issuance or loss of the bill of lading. It shall be signed in triplicate, which shall be signed and stamped by the consignor and the carrier. It describes in detail all the important characteristics of the load. Some of the most important data in the bill of lading are: the name and address of the consignor, the carrier and the consignee; place and date of acceptance of the cargo and the destination for delivery; the gross weight of the load or the number of pallets, their markings and numbers; the price mentioned in the contract of carriage of the goods, as well as the additional costs incurred, including customs duties; if necessary, additional data are described, for example for cargo insurance, transport time, etc.
